Teacher Quality Programs (TQE), which are authorized by State Grants, Teacher Recruitment Grants and Partnership Grants, intend towards making lasting modifications in the manner of recruiting teacher. They are also targeted towards their preparation, support and license. A clear goal of these education grants is for reducing the shortages in qualified teachers for high-requirement school districts.
Educational Grants for Teachers
TQE programs include 3 types in discretionary grants. Each one of them has a unique method of improving the preparation of teachers across the nation.

Teacher Education Grants
State Grants look for promoting statewide reform activities targeted towards teacher preparation. They do it with links to K-12 & higher education institutions for stimulating systemic policies and practicing changes in areas such as preparation, certification & licensing of teachers. Apart from that these institution provide the scope of practice to the teachers. Grants are mainly focused on improving teaching methods, content knowledge, technology preparations, enhancing clinical experiences of future teachers, recruiting teachers for schools in high need and encouraging the accountability of meaningful teaching. They also look for providing new and experienced teachers with activities that guarantee high-quality professional developments.
Partnership Grants
These grants look out for raising student achievements and improving learning by coming up with a fundamental improvement in the programs of teacher preparation. The activities of these grants are focused on increasing the academic content preparation of teachers, integrating methods for research-based teaching into education curriculum, offering sustained clinical or on-field experiences and creating options for development in professional activities, which improve their content knowledge and at the same time, strengthen their teaching skills.
Recruitment Grants
These grants are meant for assisting in teacher recruitment reform at higher education and state levels. It is imperative for applicants to identify the critical requirement of recruiting and preparing teachers, who are highly qualified.
Grants for Teacher Professional Development
They are expected for developing strategies and in the process, improving the capacity in hiring and retaining the teachers. Its their responsibility to focus on getting hold of teachers, who have the potential to meet all the critical requirements. Again, it should also be checked that eligible teachers are required and then provided with the best programs for preparing them.
Who can apply for teacher education grants?
State Education Agencies can apply for state grants, whereas institutions providing higher education and local agencies for education can apply for Partnership & Recruitment grants. When it comes to state grants, there are only few states, which are eligible for this one-time award:
• Alaska
• Delaware
• Hawaii
• Montana
• New York
• US Virgin Islands
• Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands
To a minimum, partnership grants comprise of institutions for higher education having high-performing program for teacher preparation, local education agency having high need and college of arts & sciences.
Timeline for Teacher Grants
There were no competitions in Fiscal years 2007 & 2008 for new awards in the program. However, new FY 2007 award was introduced in the Teacher Quality Enhancement Grants Program, which is the recruitment grants for partnerships and states, by funding the grant slate of FY 2005. Last competition was in FY 2005, when the closing date was December 17, 2004.
